HOURS

“If it’s so wrong,
then why don’t we let go?”

One with chaos and heartbreak, “HOURS” depicts the hours spent in longing while staying in a love not meant to be.

“HOURS” is for the hopeless romantics. The ones who love and never stop loving. Those who sit by the door waiting for the right thing to come, and it just doesn’t.

With each poem titled as the hour they were written, “HOURS” mirrors the stubbornness of holding on and refusing to let go. It follows the journey of heartbreak, yearning, realization, and acceptance—how one love can mean so much and be so wrong at the same time.

driving lessons

Perfect for Lang Leav and Atticus fans, this book explores the catharsis of heartbreak and starting over.

'driving lessons' as a collection is a drive back to the past to learn how to navigate the present. It is unlearning and relearning how to love; accepting what was in order to move forward with what is. 'driving lessons' in its entirety is looking in the rearview mirror with questions, dodging potholes and speeding through bumps, only to realize the hurt isn’t enough to fear loving again, but the trauma fights to take control of the wheel most of the time.

It is knowing that loving and allowing yourself to be loved are two entirely different roads, but with time and patience, one can always find their way back home.

As themes of love, anxiety and relationship patterns are explored in the book, this collection is for everyone who understands that allowing yourself to be loved isn't the same as simply loving another person.

seconds

"The thing about grief is that it stays.

It comes with a roar and it doesn’t bargain—it won’t grant another day or spare even a second for a cleaner goodbye. It enters the room and it drags the righteous while they scream and thrash. Sometimes, you come willingly. You walk side by side and it whispers "don’t look back" as it carries your worth in its hands. Your power in yours. Then it sends you home. It reminds you to keep the door closed even if it hurts. Even if hope comes knocking and love sends flowers. Even if he changes. Because grief knows what's temporary. Grief understands. Grief tells you to stay gone.

So I stay gone."

Perfect for anyone who needs a soft place to land, 'seconds' explores what it means to learn how to choose peace even when chaos feels more familiar. To move forward by looking back. To outgrow a version of yourself, and still hold space to miss them.

this book explores the complexity of:

  • time - through emotional relapses, seconds reveals how time bends and repeats when you're healing

  • grief - these pieces mourn people and versions of yourself who haven't died, but are gone nonetheless

  • identity - an exploration of who we become after heartbreak, and how we grow from it

  • letting go - a reckoning with how staying gone can be harder than leaving in the first place

From the author of HOURS and driving lessons, Khailla Shanne returns with a new collection of poetry that centers the truth about healing: it never comes in a straight line. It spirals, in between grieving, remembering, relapsing, and growing.
